Surprise Me by L.J. Brandt

God, surprise me with Your flowers today

Petals from the portal of grace

Heavenly kisses for my upturned face

Beauty for the ashes of my earthly race.

Surprise me with sweetness of Your company

Our eternal Spirits flow in unity

Surprise me with the comfort of Your love

Mercies from the throne of God.

Refresh me with your healing touch

My soul suspended between heaven and earth

The Mighty and the Mystery all entwined

Your majesty and tenderness in Spirit aligned

Surprise me with Butterfly things

And with the songs the whole earth sings

And with the joy from every spring

And with the view from eagles wings

Amaze me.

Wildflowers at my daughter's place in New Hampshire, just like

the ones that grew in my hayfield at home on the farm.

God's Response by L.J. Brandt

I restore you with heavenly graces

Give you rest in desert spaces

I feed you--

with angel's food

-- And raise

your hope anew.

I befriend you by the well of water

I hear your sons and daughters

Lay you down by quiet streams

Warm you up with my sunbeams.

I restore years that were taken

And fill your heart with blessings

Lead you through rough places

And I give you

A sure passageway

To heaven.

Wildflower Poem by L.J. Brandt

Shall I call you Peaches? He asked.

Or Petunia?

I'm a Wildflower, I said

in fresh wind, blowing

storm rain and

flute songs

roots somewhere in the wild

buffalo hooves crashing churn soil

and then roll, creating

fairy hollows in the meadow

for the wildflowers to grow.

Pale pink pleasing

Light Yellow sense

Butterfly Blue mystery

Red righteous

Green—tender-- life

smells of Victory

White

Difference

I was not cultivated in a garden

I said

to the memories

about to swan dive

into the deep

I caught soil

barely hung on

tippy toed in the

corn field

water dropping

anchor

found me

there

hovering

Years later

An honor ring

given me by my daughter

Letters engraved inside said

"You belong

among

the Wildflowers . . . "

Touché.

Tulips at the Tulip Festival, which is celebrated every spring in Pella, Iowa.
